With more and more of the high street seemingly happy to stock more and more of the same styles we always try to keep an eye out for things at are just that little bit different. If you’re also finding it difficult to find a shoe that's comfortable that should be as simple as finding a shoe that fits well and we certainly pride ourselves there.

OUR HISTORY.

Started by my granddad George (Nick) Dowling after he left the army in 1946 where he made shoes for the officers, G.Dowling & Son has stood on the same spot since 1957. Always specializing in large and small sizes his costumers included former Master of the Rolls Lord Denning. My Granddad retired in 1989 but the tradition of friendly chat, helpful service and having the knack of finding the right shoe that greeted every person who came into his shop has continued. Down to my Father, Brian Dowling, who started as soon as he left school and is still very much the driving force in the shop. My Mother Janet Dowling and to me, Matthew Dowling who runs this site and is on hand to answer any questions and to try to make sure you leave the online shop with the same service and satisfaction that has always made our small shop of shoes the success it is.
